Things Nancy could have done instead of writing a book - -

Things Madame Speaker could have done instead of writing a book -

- cut off war funding

- hold impeachment hearings

- go to court to enforce Congressional subpoenas

- hold hearings on Gitmo prisoner abuses

- hold hearings on violations of international treaties

- increase funding for and develop an energy strategy before the crisis hit

- homeland security oversight hearings

- increase funding for alternate fuels

- increase auto mileage standards

- expand and improve medicare drug benefit

- accelerate and further increase minimum wage

- all the things you promised in '06

- campaign for the ticket rather than promote a ghost written vanity book (you're a millionaire - - you don't need the money)

- generally, pass legislation popular with the public, and then blame the lack of enactment on Republican senate fillibusters and Republican presidential vetos

Anyone else have any suggestions for what Nancy should have done?

Actually read the DNC charter and not misrepresented the role of super delegates in favor of Obama.

Not supported the position that the Florida POPULAR vote shouldn't even be considered by super delegates

Not used her position as Speaker to lobby for Obama with terms like consider who won the most states after it was already clear who that was.  This was in the context of Florida voters don't matter but total states won is a valid metric.

Do you have a link for that?  That Nancy Pelosi said that superdelegates should consider the umm, number of states won.

Or how about... (2.00 / 1)

Not try to blame Senators for pushing the FISA legislation through, instead of taking responsibility herself.

Re: Or how about... (none / 0)

But it actually was the Senators who pushed it through.  In the house the bill went down to defeat.

Re: Or how about... (none / 0)

Really?  Do you really think that voting 293 v. 129, and then sending it to the Senate...is having the Senators pushing through legislation in the House?

Really?

No surprises. The House has passed a new federal surveillance law. It's expected to go to the Senate next week and on to the President for a signature.

The final vote was 293 for, 129 against.

A big win for AT&T and Verizon.

I'm sorry, she's the Speaker of the House.  She set's the agenda.  She allowed the House bill to come up and be pushed onto the agenda and played directly into the hands of the GOP.  The Senate including Obama failed miserably to stop it and thus incompetence starting, paralyzing fear continuing the shredding of the Constitution and gave Bush and Cheney all they wanted and more.

Re: Just bought it ! (none / 0)

From Publishers Weekly
In this graceful personal and political history, Pelosi describes growing up as the daughter of a congressman in an Italian-American Catholic world (growing up Catholic had an enormous impact on me) and her burgeoning political interest (I always knew that I did not want to deal only with the meals, the laundry, the house). She details making history twice--becoming the first daughter to follow her father into Congress and in her groundbreaking election as the first female Speaker of the House in 2007. Pelosi writes passionately about the experiences of congressional women (Nothing has been more wholesome for the politics and the government of our country than the increased participation of women) and takes on George W. Bush, who she maintains lacks the vision, knowledge or judgment to be the leader our country needs. Careful to separate the person from the policy, Pelosi deals courteously with the former even when she condemns the latter. Pelosi's book is a simply crafted acknowledgment of the support of her family, mentors and helpful colleagues without rhetorical flourishes, insider scandal or intimate revelations--a gentle account from a tough politician.
